Definition
Net collection rate measures the percentage of allowable charges that a healthcare organization actually collects. It is calculated by dividing payments received by charges allowed (after contractual adjustments). A net collection rate of 95% or higher is considered best-in-class for healthcare organizations.
Why it matters
Net collection rate is the truest measure of revenue cycle effectiveness because it accounts for contractual adjustments and reflects actual cash collected. A low net collection rate indicates systemic issues such as missed charges, underpayments, excessive write-offs, or poor follow-up on outstanding balances. Enterprise organizations use this metric to benchmark performance across locations and providers.
How Ventus helps
Ventus protects collections upstream: procedure-level insurance verification and pre-authorization before treatment, and claim status and denial intelligence after submission. Fewer preventable denials means more of what practices have earned is collected.
