What is Revenue Integrity?

Definition

Revenue Integrity refers to the end-to-end controls that ensure charges, coding, billing, and reimbursement accurately reflect the care provided and comply with payer and regulatory rules. It spans charge capture, CDM governance, coding/edit validation, and contract-based reimbursement checks to prevent leakage and compliance risk. For example, catching missing infusion start/stop times or incorrect modifiers can avert denials and recover $150–$300 per outpatient encounter.

Why it matters

At enterprise scale, revenue leakage of just 1–3% of net patient revenue is common; for a multi-hospital system with $250M NPR, that’s $2.5–$7.5M annually. Robust revenue integrity also lowers avoidable denials and late charges, which can add 3–5 AR days and inflate staffing needs.

How Ventus helps

Ventus supports revenue integrity with payer data: procedure-level benefits before treatment, and normalized claim status and denial reasons after submission. Denial intelligence shows which payers deny which procedures, and why, so the cause can be fixed upstream.
